Style or Vile?!

This morning over my completely-necessary-to-jump-start-my-day cup of coffee I was leafing through a few new magazines that we just got in the mail.  Frontgate, some random catalogue filled with silk flowers (NO idea how I got on that list...I'm still a silk flower skeptic,) and the newest J. Crew.

In 6th grade, I'm pretty sure that Jennifer Jahn dominated the Duckhead shorts and multicolored belt scene at my middle school.  Then by 7th grade, Stacey Price made the sueded silk shirt a "must-have" for all of us fashion conscious girls.  And in 8th grade, we were all about the baggy sweaters and colored leggings or stirrup pants....so awesome!  But thankfully by 9th grade I think The Limited must have headed us in a more classic direction, so by 10th grade I was really loving some J. Crew.

And ever since then I've always found something I liked there.

A few years ago though they jacked up their prices so I buy less there than I used to, but I still love to peruse the newest catalogues to make sure I'm not insanely out of fashion since I have little time to actually go into stores to try on clothes with 2 small boys!

SO today, happily sipping my coffee and feeling relatively decent as I compared the things I mix together from Old Navy and Kohls, I happen upon this....what I'd call a Fashion EMERGENCY!

<----In case you just missed it, I went ahead and took a close-up shot for you to see for yourself.

WHAT?!  Are you kidding me?

Last time I saw this was a few months back when my sweet grandmother was wearing orange socks with her sandals.  And now here...in J. Crew?!

Clearly I've missed the fashion boat, but I think that's really fine with me in this case!

So I read on and for the most part they redeemed themselves in the rest of the catalogue...until THIS!

Again, baffled.  All I could envision was something straight from Beverly Hills 90210 circa 1989-1990.

Looks like this year I may opt out of a few "fashion trends" very happily.

Next thing I know they'll have boxer shorts hanging out the bottom of a pair of Umbro's.  Sweet....

Happy Thursday!  Dying to know what you all think of these trends.  Is it just me, or does this seem awful to you too?!

- Logan

** Yesterday in my email inbox I got a notification from JCREW that said "A surprise in your March catalogue!"....I'll say!  Had to post this hilarious addendum even a few days after this original post!

Hey Logan! These styles make me laugh and that you mentioned some good ole' Hickory folks makes it even funnier! I seriously hope this doesn't come back into style. Your blog is so cute! Glad I stumbled upon it! Hope you and the fam are well!

I love how you called out the fashion setters - so true about Jennifer Jahn!! Look through our year books!

Amy, glad you stumbled upon it too! Hope you'll check it out again! Our fam is well...keeping busy for sure!

And to Kimberly...I have VIVID memories of who wore what in middle school in particular. Probably because we were all steeped in such cutting edge fashion! LOL

Logan this cracked me up! Getting a J Crew (or an Anthropolgie for that matter)is like getting one of the magazines I actually subscribe to in the mail, I love them! ...and spend way too much time pouring over every single page....well the other night I saw this EXACT outfit with the shorts and thought it was so funny I even had to show the hubby to see if I could sport these this summer :) We both had a chuckle, I think they look like a paper bag tied up with string :)

btw hilarious title! :)

Umbros bring back many memories. And I remember in seventh grade how I wished I could tight roll my jean as well as Mary Charles Moseley! I don't think I'll be sporting any footwear like that unless I'm running out to the chicken coop!

Ha! Yeah, I did the whole socks and birkenstocks thing back in the 90's grunge era and it raised an eyebrow even then! The jean shorts are just wrong.
